Second Chance Farm:
Our Mission and Approach
Our Mission
At Second Chance Farm, our mission is to help reduce food insecurity in Long Island by providing fresh, organic produce to those in need in an environmentally-conscious way.
We accomplish this through harvests in the summer from our fields and donate what we pick to food banks in need. We focus on the “ugly” fruits and vegetables that are often thrown away by supermarkets, in an effort to create a less wasteful food system.
Our Approach
Sustainability
All our produce is organic and farmed using time-tested, sustainable methods
Education
In addition to organizing harvests and donating the proceeds, we also focus on food sustainability education.
Hi, I’m Karina Lippmann
Growing up, I gained a passion for sustainable food as I became increasingly aware of environmental issues and the impact of food choices on the planet. This interest deepened through my work with the Robin Hood Foundation's teen council, where I focused on tackling food insecurity in New York City. I founded my school's Students Fighting Food Insecurity Club, which has been a rewarding way to engage with these issues directly, organizing drives and educating others about the importance of sustainability. I’m currently a rising senior at Grace Church School, and author of “Reef to Table: The Definitive Invasive Lionfish Cookbook,” a project that blends my love of scuba diving with my commitment to sustainability by promoting the consumption of invasive species like lionfish.
